Complex cross-border commercial disputes have been Dr. Evgenia Peiffer’s focus for more than a decade. She represents parties in international commercial arbitration and in litigation before German courts. She also advises clients on how to manage emerging disputes and mitigate legal and commercial risks at an early stage. Evgenia regularly sits as arbitrator in commercial disputes.
Evgenia’s practice spans energy and infrastructure projects, M&A transactions and commercial contracts, including supply, distribution, service and licensing agreements. She has extensive experience in international arbitrations conducted under the DIS, ICC, VIAC and UNCITRAL Rules. Her cases often involve foreign substantive laws and parallel proceedings across jurisdictions. She is also a trusted advisor on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in Germany.
A particular focus of her practice is Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Evgenia has an in-depth understanding of the region’s legal and business environment, gained through numerous cross-border disputes involving CEE and her own professional experience in Serbia and Bulgaria. As a native Bulgarian speaker, she also brings a strong linguistic and cultural understanding of the region. Since 2025, she has served as Co-Chair of the Serbian-German Arbitration Group, a joint initiative of the leading arbitral institutions in Germany and Serbia.
In addition, Evgenia shapes private international law and international civil procedure academically: she is co-author of the BeckOGK article-by-article commentary on the Brussels-Ia-Regulation, a leading publication in this field, writes and speaks regularly on current developments in cross-border dispute resolution, and taught international civil procedure and arbitration law at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg from 2020 to 2024.
Evgenia also leads CMS Germany’s Dispute Resolution AI Taskforce. Together with colleagues and IT experts, she drives the use of artificial intelligence to create value for clients and enhance efficiency throughout the lifecycle of contentious proceedings.
