Dr Georg Mertens advises on all matters regarding financial restructuring.

He regularly supports companies, financiers and investors as well as creditors on the reorganisation of capital and financing structures. He assists companies in crisis to stabilise them and supports them in both pre-insolvency and formal restructuring proceedings, such as in self-administration proceedings. In restructuring situations, he helps creditors and investors asserting their interests and claims, including the enforcement of collateral. Another focus of Dr Georg Mertens' work is distressed M&A transactions, where he also advises on all corporate law issues in the context of restructuring. He has particular industry experience in the real estate sector.

Before joining CMS in 2025, Dr Georg Mertens worked for over three years at an international commercial law firm in the areas of financial restructuring, corporate law, corporate finance, and insolvency law.
