Katja specializes in the areas of trademark, design, unfair competition and copyright law. She advises and represents her national and international clients in both non-contentious and contentious matters, including interim injunctions and litigation proceedings. Her main areas of practice include strategic advice on the development and enforcement of intellectual property portfolios (trademarks and designs) at a national and international level, as well as advice on competition law matters (UWG), in particular with regard to advertising claims related to sustainability, so-called “green claims”, including the development of strategies to avoid greenwashing before the launch of new products and services.
Prior to joining CMS in 2017, Katja worked in an IP boutique in Bremen. She has been a counsel since 2022.
Katja is a co-author of a renowned compendium for Intellectual Property Law, the Munich Attorney's Handbook Intellectual Property (Münchener Anwaltshandbuch Gewerblicher Rechtsschutz) and regularly publishes articles on IP law topics. In addition, she gives lectures at events, conducts workshops and hosts webinars on current topics from the IP field. Currently, she contributes articles on ESG topics to our blog. She is also a co-founder of the CMS Green Globe, an interactive platform that allows businesses and clients to stay aware and duly informed about all the main rapidly changing trends and developments in relation to sustainability claims.
