Klaus Sachs is among Germany’s leading experts for domestic and international arbitration proceedings. With more than 25 years of experience as counsel and arbitrator, he has acted in more than 200 proceedings under all major arbitration rules, including DIS, ICC, LCIA, Swiss Rules, Vienna Rules, Moscow Chamber of Commerce, SCC, CRCICA, JCAA as well as in ad hoc proceedings (including UNCITRAL Rules).
As arbitrator, Klaus mainly acts in corporate law, joint venture and M&A related disputes, but also regularly in proceedings related to licence and cooperation agreements in the industrial plant construction and energy sectors.
In addition, Klaus has so far been chairman or co-arbitrator in more than 30 investment disputes under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules. Underlining his outstanding expertise, he, among others, chaired arbitration proceedings at the World Bank in Washington between the USA and Canada in a dispute arising from a softwood lumber agreeement between the two countries.
Klaus Sachs joined CMS in 1985 and has been a partner since 1987. His legal career started at Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz in 1977, followed by four years in the Paris office of Curtis, Mallet-Prévost, Colt & Mosle.
