With a focus on merger control, Malena Hansen advises clients on all aspects of German and European competition law. She assists with the notification of proposed mergers to the European Commission and German Federal Cartel Office and, jointly with international lawyers, coordinates multinational merger control proceedings. Malena also advises energy companies on regulation and licensing matters.

Malena joined CMS in 2017. She became counsel in 2025.

  • Atlas Copco (SE) on its EUR 670 milion acquisition of industrial pump manufacturer LEWA and of Geveke (NL), a distributor of industrial compressors and developer of process pump installations
  • terranets bw on its acquisition of regional gas transmission operator Gas-Union Transport
  • Representation of PRISMA European Capacity Platform in proceedings against ACER (Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators) before the Board of Appeal of ACER re ACER's decision on the gas booking platform to be used on the German-Polish border
  • Merger control law advice to and representation of Fluxys (B) and NOVATEK (RUS) on the creation of a joint venture for the operation of an LNG storage terminal in Rostock
  • Merger control law advice to and representation of Advance Publications (USA) on the acquisition of Stage Entertainment (NL)
  • Merger control law advice to and representation of Gasversorgung Süddeutschland and EXXETA on the formation of the Tender365 joint venture
  • Merger control advice to N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie and Gasunie Deutschland on acquisition of a stake in the EUGAL pipeline project
  • Advising Stromnetz Berlin GmbH in a dispute with the state of Berlin on the selection criteria for the concession for electricity networks in Berlin
