CMS advises Penta Infra on 20 MW Munich data centre colocation project
Düsseldorf – Penta Infra, a fully European-owned colocation provider backed by Dutch investors Photon Capital and PGGM, has completed the acquisition of a data centre in Munich. The site will be comprehensively modernised and expanded into a state-of-the-art colocation facility with up to 20 MW of IT capacity, tailored to customers' evolving requirements and offering flexible deployment models, including high-density colocation enabled by liquid cooling for AI and HPC workloads. The facility is planned to become operational in 2028. The acquisition represents a strategic expansion into one of Europe's most dynamic enterprise markets and strengthens Penta Infra's presence in Germany at a time when data governance, operational resilience and digital transformation are driving demand for trusted, sustainable infrastructure.
A CMS team led by Philipp Schönnenbeck advised Penta Infra comprehensively throughout the entire acquisition process, including the legal due diligence, questions on grid connection, the drafting and negotiation of the transaction documentation and implementation of the transaction through to closing. CMS has also supported Penta Infra previously on its entry into the German market and on acquisitions of data centre projects in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Berlin and Leipzig.
Founded in 2015, Penta Infra develops and operates a portfolio of strategically located data centres across Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark, with further expansion planned across Europe. With the Munich acquisition, the company adds its first data centre in southern Germany to complement existing facilities in Berlin, Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne. The Munich facility is being developed to the highest industry standards for energy efficiency, security and redundancy, will operate on 100% renewable energy and is being designed for heat re-use, with additional features including on-site solar generation.
