Significant transaction sees 4iG and Corvinus acquire Hungary’s second largest telecommunications company

International law firm CMS has advised 4iG, a key player in the infocommunications market, on its acquisition of Vodafone Hungary, the country’s second largest telecommunications company, alongside the Hungarian state, represented by Corvinus Nemzetközi Befektetési Zrt.

The transaction, valued at around HUF 660bn (approx. EUR 1.67bn), will see 4iG become the majority owner of 51 percent of Vodafone Hungary, while the Hungarian State will acquire a 49 percent stake. With this acquisition, 4iG will expand its activities and become a major player in mobile telecommunications in Hungary.

CMS advised on the due diligence and all legal aspects of the transaction.

CMS Corporate Partner Helen Rodwell commented: “We are delighted to have advised 4iG on this transaction, which is one of the most significant deals in the telecommunications sector in Central and Eastern Europe in recent years. The acquisition will allow the company to play an even greater role in the country’s digital transformation, and we were excited to have been part of it.”

The international and multijurisdictional CMS team was led by Helen Rodwell, with support from David Cranfield (M&A); Dora Petranyi (TMT); Yavor Danailov (Corporate); and Emma Tuppen (Tax). A large team of colleagues from Budapest and various other CMS offices across Europe provided further support.
