József is a Senior Associate at the Dispute Resolution Group of CMS Budapest.

József graduated summa cum laude from Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Law (Budapest) in 2013. Prior to joining the Budapest office, József had spent 5 years at the Department of Anti-Corruption and White Collar Crime Investigations of the Budapest City Police Headquarters as a detective, where he dealt with detecting and investigating serious high-profile crimes against property and the economy. In the course of his activities József gained comprehensive experience in respect of procedures under the competences of the police (particularly in border police, public administration and investigation), the customs office and the prosecutor’s office as well as in the efficient and cost-effective coordination of private detective works.

Relevant experience

  • An international healthcare and pharmacy sector company on conducting a comprehensive internal investigation and providing legal representation related to theft committed to the detriment of the firm’s own property.
  • A major commercial financial service provider on reputation and crisis management, where the client faced malignant harassment by a former customer.
  • A Swiss agrobusiness in a criminal investigation about the compliance of their bonus scheme.
  • Internal investigations to uncover bribery and fraud allegations at a large Swiss business’ Hungarian subsidiary.
  • A German multinational wholesale chain on the Hungarian law aspects of tax-based criminal proceedings initiated and investigated by the Criminal Department of the Hungarian Tax Authority. 
  • A Korean travel agency – providing litigation, criminal law and insurance support to the client as well as to survivors and families of the victims in the Hableány tour boat accident of 29 May 2019 on the river Danube that resulted in 27 deaths including the crew and tourists onboard. 
  • A widely known Dutch company specialising in VAT refunds in a criminal investigation initiated concerning unjustly reclaimed VAT, by using presumably forged documents submitted in Hungary.
  • A large US company manufacturing IT products – in connection with embezzlement committed against the Company’s bank accounts by an employee.
  • An international firm trading metal goods on conducting a comprehensive internal investigation and providing legal representation related to embezzlement committed to the detriment of the firm’s own property.
  • A major air navigation company in lawsuits regarding the company’s personality rights.
