Péter Rostás is a senior associate in the Commercial and Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Group at CMS Budapest. He has extensive experience advising clients on commercial contracts, e-commerce matters, data protection and privacy compliance, and intellectual property and technology law.

Before joining CMS, Péter worked for several leading international law firms, gaining broad experience across multiple practice areas.

His commercial practice covers a wide range of transactional and advisory work, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts such as distribution, supply, franchise, and agency agreements. In the e-commerce space, he regularly advises on online consumer protection rules, digital services regulation, and cross-border e-commerce compliance.

Péter has significant expertise in data protection and privacy, advising clients on GDPR compliance programmes, data processing agreements, data transfer mechanisms, privacy impact assessments, and regulatory investigations.

He also assists clients with the data protection aspects of new technologies, including artificial intelligence and automated decision-making. In addition, he is experienced in intellectual property and IP portfolio management.

Relevant experience

  • An AI self-checkout service provider on the development of its core business model, including drafting master agreements and general terms and conditions for the distribution of physical products and the provision of SaaS services.
  • A self-publishing and book distribution platform on day-to-day commercial and copyright law matters, including the regular review, update and amendment of its general terms and conditions, as well as providing ongoing legal support in its publishing and distribution activities.
  • An e-commerce fulfilment and logistics platform for online stores on the regular review and update of its general terms and conditions, as well as providing commercial, regulatory and data protection support.
  • An influencer marketing and in-app advertising platform on drafting franchise and other cooperation framework agreements, and providing ongoing commercial legal and data protection advice.
  • A Hungarian premium fashion brand on trademark disputes and trademark prosecution matters, including representation in various trademark proceedings.
  • Several online stores on drafting general terms and conditions and privacy notices as well as providing advice on e-commerce and consumer protection matters.
