Tamás Tercsák, PhD is an of counsel at CMS Budapest. He is the former managing partner in Dentons’ Budapest office and was the head of the office’s Corporate/Commercial group.

He has a proven track record advising major international corporations on large-scale acquisitions and management takeovers across several sectors in the Hungarian market. Tamás also has considerable experience advising and representing clients in technology, media, communications, as well as employment law and litigation matters. He is an expert in matters involving the film industry and has led several financings and other transactions in the past.

As part of his work with the law firm, he spent two years in the late 1990s acting as one of the directors conducting the 'dormant account' matters for the Swiss Bankers Association. Tamás is an examiner at the Law Faculty of Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest and is a listed arbitrator at both the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hungarian Energy Arbitration Court.

Tamás regularly publishes articles in leading legal publications on areas such as contract, company and employment law. His book on the theory and practice of the abuse of rights (law) was published in 2003.

  • A multi-business entity and one of the leading manufacturers of specialty chemicals, technical textiles and packaging films on general commercial matters in relation to its expansion in Hungary.
  • An American multinational conglomerate on drafting a high-value licensing agreement of the company’s trade secret portfolio within an inter-company reorganization project, whereby a business segment and the related trade secret portfolio has been relocated to another entity within the company group and on follow-up tasks related to the transaction, e.g. drafting sub-licenses and consents.
  • Crédit Agricole on a major antitrust investigation in connection with the alleged unlawful information-sharing in a sector-wide banking database (known as BankAdat) in Hungary affecting the whole Hungarian banking sector.
  • 4Life and Red Sands Group, the leading life insurance company in numerous consumer protection cases, e.g. during the court review of a former HCA decision concerning the misleading commercial practices of the parties in the market of life insurance products and in an ongoing HCA investigation.
  • A multinational chemical company in competition supervision proceedings in connection with alleged cartel of pesticide distributors and suppliers.
