Coronavirus & contract breaches in Central Eastern Europe

16 March 2020

The situation with Covid-19 (Coronavirus) is still developing rapidly and is being followed with keen interest and obvious concern. We already know that this global pandemic will have a severe social and economic impact, and governments will do everything in their power to mitigate the risks.

Covering seven Central and Eastern European jurisdictions (Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine), CMS has created this guide to support companies in contract breaches during the Covid-19 pandemic. To avoid litigation and to secure a safe position, CMS answers these questions:

  • which contracts might be affected by the coronavirus pandemic?
  • what legal regime applies?
  • is this a force majeure event?

This guide does not constitute legal advice. Please always seek legal advice from your lawyer.
