The European Parliament has adopted the Directive. The EC provides a synopsis of the main objectives of the Directive (including the requirement for lenders to provide borrowers with a standardised information sheet; the protection of vulnerable consumers from over-indebtedness and default; the application of “reasonable” forbearance) plus an FAQ. It is suggested that, in the long run, the Directive will provide lenders with new business opportunities through the creation of a Single European Mortgage Market which will create more EU-wide competition.
