Antoine Laniez is a Partner and heads the Dispute Resolution practice of CMS Luxembourg.

He represents a wide range of institutional clients in complex arbitration and litigation in the areas of commercial, corporate and insolvency law.

Leveraging nearly 20 years of experience, Antoine has an impressive track record in cross-border recognition and enforcement proceedings, in particular cases involving sovereign states.

Antoine was admitted to the Luxembourg Bar in 2006, as a solicitor to the higher courts of England and Wales in 2011 (non practicing), and to the French Bar in 2013 (non practicing).

He is recognised as a leading lawyer by Chambers and Legal 500 where he is described by clients as “an excellent technical lawyer providing terrific client service”.

Relevant experience

  • Assisting a publicly listed US defence, aviation, information technology, and biomedical research company, in the recognition and enforcement of an arbitral award against the Hellenic Republic.
  • Representing a Luxembourg based award creditor in one of the most notorious renewable energy investment case against Spain.
  • Representing one of the major players in the field of construction in various multimillion disputes.
  • Appointed as an arbitrator in a complex dispute related to the sale of a large business (share deal) in one of the first arbitration proceedings governed by Luxembourg's new law on arbitration, dated 19 April 2023.
  • Legal counsel of the CFL, national railway company, for complex trans-border litigations.
  • Assisting a global investment bank based in Switzerland against a foreign bank in the context of a of multi millions EUR lawsuit related to investments in a Luxembourg Investment fund.
  • Assisting a leading UK gambling company in three different disputes against individuals who have initiated enforcement measures in Luxembourg to secure payments of Austrian decisions rendered in the gambling industry further to the recent wave of decisions in that country banning foreign operators in the online gambling industry.
  • Involved in various Investment funds related disputes including successfully representing a fund manager with over $1.2bn of cumulative investments, in an investment related dispute related to renewable energy investments.
  • Advising a major American corporation specialising in energy solutions, jet engines, and health care technologies in the context of a dispute related to a mining project in Angola, for which enforcement measures are taken in Luxembourg.
  • Advising an investor in the context of a complex litigation related to the sale of a major European football club.
