The 2026 Edition of the Legal 500 EMEA Guide has been released. We are pleased to announce that CMS Luxembourg has been ranked Tier 2 and Tier 3 across nine practices.

We would like to thank our clients in particular for entrusting us with their legal matters.

Banking, Finance and Capital markets | Tier 3

Leveraging a collaborative culture across international offices and practice areas, as well as effectively utilising legal technology to streamline processes, CMS Luxembourg's relatively compact finance team punches above its weight, providing a 'solutions-oriented approach' for a range of stakeholders on cross-border banking and capital markets transactions. The 'extremely responsive and knowledgeable' Aurélien Hollard is particularly skilled at advising funds seeking to raise finance, including through the bond markets, for their downstream investment activity. Hollard is also adept at handling highly structured finance matters, including those involving securitisation vehicles, and is increasingly active in relation to transactions involving digital assets. The 'approachable and business-minded' Vivian Walry heads up the team, which also includes the 'very skilful' financial services regulatory lawyer Aurélia Viémont.

Commercial, Corporate and M&A | Tier 3

Appreciated for its ability to 'seamlessly integrate across disciplines and jurisdictions', CMS Luxembourg provides 'very commercially oriented' advice to corporates and funds on the Luxembourg structuring associated with their buy and sell-side international M&A transactions. 'Very seasoned' corporate lawyer Gérard Maitrejean heads the team and can leverage his vast reservoir of Luxembourg legal knowledge to good effect on cross-border transactions, as well as more broadly through ongoing corporate advice associated with doing business in Luxembourg. Pawel Hermelinski is 'highly skilled and pragmatic' on corporate and commercial matters, including advising on co-investment structures to facilitate downstream investments.

Dispute Resolution | Tier 2

The ‘highly experienced and knowledgeable’ team at CMS Luxembourg has been increasingly visible in the market following Antoine Laniez’s recruitment in June 2024 from NautaDutilh. Appreciated for his ‘creative and practical’ approach to handling litigation and arbitration, Laniez has strengthened the team, adding increased heft behind its ability to handle complex corporate disputes, as well as broadening its skill set to include cross-border recognition and enforcement proceedings, including in cases involving sovereign states. Counsel Florence Remouchamps, who joined the firm at the same time as Laniez, is also a key member of the team, including on both arbitration and enforcement cases.

Recognised Lawyers

Employment | Tier 3

Combining ‘deep local expertise with global reach’, CMS Luxembourg is particularly skilled at handling multi-jurisdictional matters for large global clients where a harmonised approach is essential. Many of these are within the banking sector, with the team, which is headed by the ’responsive and business-oriented’ Hugo Arellano, skilled at handling contentious work, including internal investigations into alleged harassment claims, as well as providing training/risk management procedures to provide a better internal workplace culture and conduct.

Recognised Lawyers

FinTech | Tier 2

Drawing upon extensive banking, insurance, funds and regulatory capabilities, and also able to leverage the firm’s global resources for matters involving multi-jurisdictional issues, CMS Luxembourg is well placed to advise a broad range of stakeholders seeking to utilise or invest in fintech products and infrastructure. Team head Aurélia Viémont is at the forefront of most of this work, including securing licensing approvals for online payment providers and providing regulatory advice in connection with tokenisation projects.

Insurance | Tier 2

Leveraging the firm’s core regulatory, banking and funds expertise, in particular, CMS Luxembourg‘s multidisciplinary team is well-positioned to advise insurance-related stakeholders on regulatory, product, and corporate matters, as well as bespoke, cross-border projects involving collaboration with global offices. Often working alongside practitioners in other firmwide European offices, Benjamin Bada is skilled at advising on the Luxembourg aspects of cross-border insurance transactions, as well as on standalone regulatory issues involving a comparative approach. Vivian Walry and Aurélia Viémont co-head the team alongside Bada.

Investment Funds | Tier 2

CMS Luxembourg provides a ‘pragmatic and solutions-oriented approach’ to managers throughout the life-cycle of a fund, from launch and downstream investments to exits. Under the leadership of the ’exceptional’ Aurélien Hollard, the team is noted for advising on regulated and unregulated structures in the alternatives market, in particular as it pertains to real estate assets, and increasingly private debt. Hollard is also skilled at handling investment products, including ESG-driven structures and impact funds. As well as his structuring of closed-ended and evergreen funds with illiquid strategies, Benjamin Bada is also the main contact for institutional investors seeking to invest into Luxembourg private equity and infrastructure funds. The ‘very knowledgeable and pragmatic’ Julia Bruzzese is the main contact for UCITS and hybrid funds challenges.

Private Equity | Tier 2

Combining both corporate and fund structuring expertise, CMS Luxembourg provides a one-stop-shop service to private equity sponsors on the implementation of the vehicles used to structure their transactions and the advice pertinent to the subsequent execution of the downstream investment. Team head Gérard Maitrejean is well versed at advising on cross-border transactions involving European, US and Asian assets across a range of sectors, including real estate and technology. Pawel Hermelinski is the other main contact for private equity-related transactional work, and alongside advising on acquisitions is also skilled handling exits and JV structuring.

Tax | Tier 2

Combining ‘deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of cross-border tax matters’, CMS Luxembourg is particularly adept at handling work for clients with multinational operations and/or complex international structures. This manifests itself across a range of cross-border mandates, including on the tax structuring associated with M&A transactions, as well as structured finance and corporate restructuring matters, where the team regularly works collaboratively with lawyers from throughout the firm’s international network. Team head Frédéric Feyten ’always finds creative solutions’ for funds/banks and corporates, as well as excelling in handling family office tax structuring. Alejandro Dominguez has ‘excellent technical knowledge’ on transactional work, as well as on compliance matters, including for financial institutions on exchange of information rules.
