The law firm CMS Grau announced Eduardo Guevara Dodds as a partner of the Energy & Climate Change practice area. Eduardo has an outstanding professional background and experience, mainly in the energy industry, having held important positions in the public and private sector.

Eduardo Guevara has worked in different capacities in the development of operations and investment projects in Peru related to the energy sector (hydrocarbon, exploration and exploitation projects, natural gas power generation projects, methane and ethane petrochemical projects), as well as he has advised important companies in the energy sector.

Over more than two decades of professional career, Eduardo has held important positions in both the public and private sectors. He was appointed as the first Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons - a position created in May 2018 - of the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines, where he was responsible for the sustainable development policy in that area, covering not only issues related to company investments, but also the social issues affecting the extractive industries. Afterwards, he served as Chairman of the Board of PETROPERU, a national hydrocarbon company, where he contributed to the modernisation of the company's management, as well as to the strengthening of its integrity and diversity policies.

Eduardo Guevara said he is "delighted to join CMS Grau and contribute to the positioning of a modern practice that anticipates the challenges of the sector".

Regarding regulation, Guevara comments that "power and oil & gas industries are transitioning through significant changes, which have not gone unnoticed by the world. Reduction of carbon emissions, promotion of renewable energy sources for power generation and strengthening of Environmental and Social Governance Standards (ESG) are some of the issues that are at the top of the table of both public entities and private corporations in such economic sectors as a result of climate change."

CMS Grau's new partner graduated in Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and has an LL.M. from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Eduardo has been recognised as an expert lawyer in hydrocarbons matters by the international rankings Chambers and Partners and Legal 500. He has also been a professor at the Law Schools of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and the Universidad de Piura, where he taught Mining and Energy Law and Hydrocarbons Law, respectively. Eduardo has written numerous published articles on trending topics in the energy sector and regularly participates as an expert speaker on energy issues at conferences and events.

"The appointment of Eduardo to CMS Grau's Energy and Climate Change team allows us to strengthen the practice and the legal advice we offer based on his in-depth knowledge of the industry and the new challenges it is facing. We are very pleased with Eduardo's decision to continue his career in our firm and we are sure that the addition of his professional background, experience and personal skills will benefit our clients," said Carlos Hamann, partner at CMS Grau.

CMS Grau records a year of strong growth

The firm closes 2022 with the incorporation of six new partners promoted in different practice areas: Néstor Shimabukuro in Administrative Law and Public Procurement; Yessica Manzur in Tax; Jesús Abanto in Energy and Climate Change; Alessandra Cocchella in Dispute Resolution; Juan José Hopkins in Corporate/M&A and TMC; and recently Eduardo Guevara in Energy & Climate Change.

This growth goes hand in hand with the global record number of promotions within the CMS law firm. During 2021 CMS announced a total of 60 appointments across 33 cities in Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East with women accounting for 43% of partner promotions globally.

The promotions reflect a successful year for CMS, underscoring the firm’s commitment to investing, nurturing and trusting in its people.
