Adriana Zdanowicz-Leśniak is an advocate and a Counsel in the Intellectual Property and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice at CMS Poland.

Adriana specializes in privacy, data protection, and technology law, offering expert advice to clients across a range of sectors, including automotive, digital economy, online services, telecommunications, and IT. Adriana manages large-scale, multinational privacy projects for key CMS clients and has deep expertise in transportation regulatory law, artificial intelligence, and automotive compliance. She represents clients in privacy-related cases before the Data Protection Authority, administrative courts, and other relevant authorities, including matters concerning PNR data and counterfeit cases before criminal courts.

Her expertise includes the EU regulations, particularly the AI Act, Digital Services Act (DSA), and whistleblowing laws. Adriana is dedicated to mentoring younger lawyers at CMS, sharing best practices in legal advice and client communication. As a respected author, she has published numerous articles on privacy, AI, and HR-GDPR topics.

She is a lecturer at SWPS University, teaching on emerging technologies. She regularly speaks at conferences, conducts training sessions, and holds workshops for clients on GDPR, and the AI Act. Her commitment to pro bono work further extends to advising various foundations and charities.

  • Lufthansa Group airlines and SAS Airline, on defending them in over 4000 administrative proceedings before the Polish Border Guard (BG) concerning the transfer of PNR personal data to the Passenger Information Unit (PIU).
  • RTB House, on the applicability of the Digital Services Act to RTB advertising services - i.e. the provision of a Demand-Side Platform (DSP) for retargeting and profiling users on websites.
  • Airbnb, on a comprehensive assessment of the legal framework applicable to the client’s business in Poland, including Hosting Experiences.
  • Iron Mountain, on its Global Data Residency project and development of Binding Corporate Rules, enabling compliant cross-border data transfers. We coordinated work across 25+ jurisdictions, advised on implementation of new SCCs, and supported formal proceedings with the Lead Authority—crucial for Iron Mountain’s global data-driven operations across regulated sectors.
  • eBay, on various interesting privacy aspects. Our work usually involves reviewing global privacy documents and localising them to our Polish laws.

Adriana Zdanowicz-Leśniak is an advocate and a counsel in the Intellectual Property and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice at CMS Poland.

She is a CIPP/E-certified expert and a member of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group at the Ministry of Digital Affairs, she has been advising clients for years on the most complex projects at the intersection of technology, law, and data protection. She specializes in AI regulations, AI governance implementation, GDPR compliance, and digital regulations.

She represents clients in proceedings before the Polish Data Protection Authority (UODO) and supports them at every stage – from audits and data processing agreements to employee data challenges.

She also advises on IP protection, including infringement cases, trademarks, and anti-counterfeiting. Adriana assists leading technology companies with IT contracts and due diligence reviews. Her experience represents a unique combination of legal expertise and technological know-how.

Relevant experience

  • Leading international debt collection group -on comprehensive legal advisory on GDPR implementation for an international leader in receivables management solutions, providing debt recovery services primarily for the financial sector. The project covered 22 companies across 17 countries and included, among other things, conducting a personal data inventory (Data Mapping), performing a gap analysis, and implementing GDPR requirements in multiple jurisdictions, including the preparation of standard internal documentation.
  • Entity specializing in payment technologies - on full legal support for Visa’s legal department in organizing lottery and contest processes from the perspective of regulatory law and data protection.
  • Global cloud solutions leader - on negotiations with contractors regarding compliance with the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. The support included risk classification, adaptation of contracts for high-risk systems and services, supplier obligations, and the use and provision of general-purpose AI models (GenAI).
