AI Omnibus Guide

24 Jul 2026 International 2 min read

The Digital Omnibus on AI (AI Omnibus) is an EU Regulation introducing targeted amendments to the European Union’s legal framework for artificial intelligence - the AI Act.

The AI Act is one of the most significant pieces of EU legislation since the GDPR, affecting the vast majority of enterprises and organisations that develop or use AI systems in their operations. It introduces a package of targeted changes: extended timelines, clarified definitions, new prohibited practices, simplified compliance pathways and strengthened cooperation duties across the AI value chain. Importantly, the proposal does not fundamentally alter the core architecture of the AI Act. The risk-based classification structure and the main obligations relating to high-risk AI systems, general-purpose AI models, and rules on prohibited practices remain generally unchanged.

This Expert Guide helps you navigate the most important changes introduced by the AI Omnibus. It explains them in clear, practical terms to help businesses, both providers and deployers of AI systems in the EU, understand the practical impact of the upcoming changes and prepare for compliance.

The Guide is strictly educational. References to Microsoft’s practical experience for illustrative purposes only and are intended to demonstrate how the amended AI Act may operate in practice. They should not be understood as product endorsement or commercial recommendations.
