CMS Portugal partners João Leitão Figueiredo and Manuel Cassiano Neves were interviewed by the Data Center Dynamics website, where they analyse current developments in the Iberian data centre market.

In the interview, split into two parts, the lawyers, who are members of the CMS Portugal Data Centers task force, reflect on topics such as the evolution of the data centre market in the Iberian region, within their areas of expertise.

João Leitão Figueiredo, a TMC lawyer, analyses, among other topics, the competitive advantages of the Iberian region in the development of new projects; its regulatory and legal framework; and the role of digital connectivity — notably submarine cables, interconnections with Africa and the Americas, and fibre networks — in positioning the Iberian Peninsula as a strategic data centre hub in Europe.

Meanwhile, Manuel Cassiano Neves, an energy lawyer, reflects on the main regulatory and contractual challenges to enabling long-term energy supply; the growing pressure on electricity grids in Portugal; and how operators and investors should structure partnerships to reduce regulatory risks and ensure long-term competitiveness.
