CMS strengthens TMC team with Erik Steiner as partner

CMS is expanding its Technology, Media & Communications (TMC) practice group with the appointment of Erik Steiner as partner, marking a significant step in the strategic development of its technology-focused advisory services. With his extensive legal and technical expertise, Erik Steiner further enhances CMS's capabilities, particularly in the field of IT law. Erik Steiner's specialises in the practice areas of cybersecurity, data protection, artificial intelligence, open-source software, and new and emerging technologies. He assists businesses in responding to the legal challenges of digital transformation and the increasing technological complexity of modern business environments. 

In response to ongoing digitalisation and the growing regulatory framework surrounding new technologies, CMS is strategically expanding its IT law practice, thereby strengthening its position as a leading advisor to technology-driven businesses and innovative business models.

Erik Steiner advises national and international businesses across the full spectrum of IT law. His practice focuses on drafting and negotiating technology and licensing agreements, regulatory matters, and complex technology projects. In addition, he has extensive expertise in video games law. 

Before pursuing a legal career, Erik Steiner worked as a software developer for several years. This unique combination of technical and legal know-how enables him to provide practical, business-oriented advice at the intersection of law and technology, while offering deep insight into the challenges faced by development and specialist teams. 

Erik Steiner studied law at the University of Vienna and has been admitted to the Austrian Bar since 2018. Alongside his legal practice, he teaches intellectual property law and competition law at the University of Applied Sciences (FH Wien der WKW), as well as data protection and IT law at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (FH Salzburg).
