International law firm CMS has advised a joint venture of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and DW Effectum Residential, on the acquisition of two residential property portfolios comprising a total of 500 units in Hamburg and Regensburg.
In Hamburg, the joint venture acquired 250 fully let residential units from a family office. The Regensburg transaction involved the acquisition of a further 250 residential units from a German investment management company.
The acquisitions were carried out through the joint venture as part of their strategy to build a portfolio of leased residential properties across Germany and follow the joint venture’s acquisition of approximately 300 residential units in southern Germany in early 2026, on which CMS also provided comprehensive legal advice.
The CMS team advising on both transactions was led by partner Stefanie Kern and covered all relevant legal aspects of the acquisitions and their financing.
