CMS advises merger of shipping companies Containerships – CMA CGM GmbH and Containerships Oy

Hamburg – At the end of the year, the French CMA CGM Group merged its subsidiary shipping companies Containerships – CMA CGM GmbH and Containerships Oy, two Intra-European multimodal logistics experts. The cross-border merger was entered in the commercial register of the Local Court of Hamburg on 30 December 2019. 

A CMS team around lead partner Dr Eckart Gottschalk advised Containerships – CMA CGM GmbH on all legal aspects of the transaction. The Finnish side of the transaction was advised by Waselius & Wist with Niklas Thibblin as lead partner.

The Containerships Group has a strong market presence in the Baltic States, Russia, Northern Europe, North Africa and in Turkiye. The merger creates a new market leader for multimodal transport solutions in Europe. With Containerships – CMA CGM GmbH, previously trading under MacAndrews GmbH, the Containerships Group now covers a network of over 30 countries from Russia to North Africa, has around 1200 employees in 36 branches in Europe alone and a fleet of 30 vessels.

CMS Deutschland previously advised the CMA CGM Group on the merger of the subsidiary shipping companies OPDR and MacAndrews in 2017 and on the acquisition of OPDR in 2015.
