Cologne – CMS has advised Sembcorp Marine Offshore Platforms Pte. Ltd. (“SMOP”) on the conclusion of a Framework Cooperation Agreement ("FCA") with TenneT TSO B.V. ("TenneT"). SMOP, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-based marine conglomerate Sembcorp Marine Ltd, entered into the FCA together with consortium partner GE Renewable Energy's Grid Solutions ("GE"). The FCA comprises at least three contracts for the supply of high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission systems for three mega offshore wind farm projects with a total capacity of six gigawatts (GW) in the Netherlands as part of TenneT's offshore grid acceleration programme.
SMOP's scope of work includes the design, procurement, construction, transportation, installation and commissioning of three 2-gigawatt HVDC offshore converter platforms - the largest and most powerful of their kind in the industry. The offshore converter platforms will be progressively installed to serve three TenneT offshore wind farm projects - the IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma and Nederwiek 2 grid connections. The offshore completion of the platforms is expected by 2031.
A CMS team led by partner Martin Krause provided extensive advice and support to SMOP on the negotiations of the FCA, the individual project agreements and the consortium agreements with GE, which lasted over a period of approximately eight months. At the same time, a team led by Dr Nicolai Ritter advised Petrofac Ltd, which also concluded a framework agreement with TenneT in a consortium with Hitachi.
With these mandates, CMS once again underlines its particular expertise in advising international plant construction projects, especially in the field of renewable energies.
