CMS appoints six new practice and sector group heads

21/06/2022

CMS is pleased to announce new heads for four of its international expertise groups.

All CMS lawyers work in cross-border groups across more than 40 countries worldwide that are structured according to the industries in which our clients operate.

Corporate/M&A

Malte Bruhns (CMS Germany) has been appointed as co-head of the CMS Corporate/M&A Group. Based in Cologne and Duesseldorf, Malte is a leading corporate lawyer with over 18 years of experience and more than 150 transactions in M&A. Malte replaces Stefan Brunnschweiler, who will continue working as a Corporate/M&A partner and member of the Management Committee of the Group as well as Managing Partner of CMS Switzerland, based in Zurich.

Malte will work alongside Louise Wallace (CMS UK), who took on the international leadership role in January 2021.

Infrastructure & Projects

Jeroen Berlage (CMS Netherlands) will co-head the CMS Infrastructure & Projects Group together with Elena Aguilar (CMS Spain).

Amsterdam-based partner Jeroen Berlage specialises in international transactions, litigation and arbitration relating to infrastructure, (infrastructural) construction and real estate law.

Elena, a Corporate/M&A partner based in Madrid, has broad international experience advising companies and Infrastructure/Private Equity funds on complex domestic and cross-border transactions.

Real Estate

London-based partner Mark Heighton (CMS UK) will take over the co-head position for the CMS Real Estate Group from Marie Scott, who is taking on additional responsibilities in the UK.

Mark has extensive experience across a wide range of real estate sectors and particularly in relation to mixed use development, build-to-rent (BTR) and senior living projects.

Mark will lead the group together with Andreas Otto (CMS Germany), who has held this leadership position since 2019.

Technology, Media & Communications

Dóra Petranyi (CMS Hungary) and Pietro Fringuelli (CMS Germany) will co-head the CMS Technology, Media and Communications Group.

Dóra is the CEE managing director at CMS. She has extensive, partly in-house, experience in telecoms and media with a special focus on all types of regulatory, competition and general commercial matters. Dóra is the co-chairman of the Regulatory & Ethics Committee of the Hungarian AI Coalition. In addition, she has established and leads the firm’s managed legal services delivery centre from Budapest, an innovative legal tech solution.

Pietro, who is based in Cologne, is specialised in media law and focused on the structuring of digital business models. Since August 2018, he is the Chairman of the Executive Board of the World ESports Association (WESA).

Leading TMC law expert, Chris Watson (CMS UK) will become Chair of the global sector group.

At the beginning of the year, CMS made the following appointments:

  • Marc-Etienne Sébire (CMS France) joins Rita Lowe (CMS UK), who took on this role in 2020, as co-head of the CMS Banking & Finance Group.
  • Agnès de l’Estoile-Campi (CMS France) and Federico Raffaelli (CMS Italy) became co-heads of the CMS Tax Group.
