Cologne – Real estate partner Heinz Joachim Kummer is moving from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer to CMS's Rhineland location at the start of May, joining the firm as an equity partner. Heinz Joachim Kummer will play a key role in the strategic strengthening of the Real Estate & Public practice.
Heinz Joachim Kummer has more than twenty years of experience as a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, a track record which he now brings to CMS. His main focus is on real estate transactions, structuring of property investments, advising funds and private equity investors, restructuring of distressed real estate and property finance.
In his many years of legal practice, Hans Joachim Kummer has advised on a series of multi-billion portfolio transactions and assisted institutional real estate investors with complex issues involving investment law. "We consider ourselves very fortunate to have attracted such a high-calibre professional to our team," said Dr Andreas Otto, head of the Real Estate & Public practice at CMS Hasche Sigle. He added: "With his wealth of experience and impressive network of contacts in the real estate industry, Hans Joachim Kummer will give our Real Estate practice, which already enjoys a strong market position, an additional boost."
Together with the new partner, CMS plans to drive forward its strategy of creating tighter links between the Real Estate practice and fund advice, tax, finance and corporate/M&A. The objective is to fully realise the potential created in these areas by the partner appointments of Daniel Voigt, Tillman Kempf, Kai-Guido Schick, Markus Pfaff and Heinrich Schirmer.
This lateral hire represents a logical strategic addition to the M&A team in Cologne, with its strong focus on the real estate sector, and to the wider Rhineland location (comprising the CMS offices in Düsseldorf and Cologne). CMS recently strengthened the Düsseldorf practice through the internal transfer of Frank Schneider and Thorsten Schätzlein from Leipzig to the Rhine.
