Denis Schlimpert advises on all aspects of German and European competition law. He represents clients before competition authorities (German Federal Cartel Office and European Commission) and has extensive experience in enforcing and defending claims before the courts. His main areas of advice include cooperation between competitors, competition/distribution law, as well as merger control. Denis has, among others, special automotive, FMCG and luxury goods industry experience. He is also author of various articles and commentaries on competition law.

Denis started his legal career at CMS in 2017 and was appointed counsel in 2024. Prior to that, he had gained practical experience in competition law at the European Commission (Directorate-General for Competition) and while working in the legal department of an international trading company.

  • Advice of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners in the merger control proceedings regarding a majority stake in H2APEX's hydrogen electrolysis project in Lubmin
  • Advice of Encavis in the merger control proceedings concerning a cooperation on five onshore wind farm projects with ABO Energy
  • Advice of KANSAI HELIOS in the merger control proceedings regarding the acquisition of WEILBURGER Coatings
  • Advice of Volkswagen and Porsche on all competition law and merger control aspects regarding the formation of a joint venture between Bugatti and Rimac
  • Advice and representation of Shell before the EU Commission in the merger control proceedings regarding the acquisition of Next Kraftwerke GmbH
  • Advice and representation of Airbus before the EU Commission in the merger control proceedings regarding the sale of PFW Aerospace to Hutchinson
  • Merger control law advice to Wilhelmsen Ship Management on joint venture with MPC Capital subsidiary Ahrenkiel Steamship
