Dirk Schauer advises entrepreneurs and private clients on national and international estate planning and corporate succession planning as well as on foundations. He advises on the structuring and protection of private and entrepreneurial assets. His practice covers succession processes, the structuring of lifetime transfers, wills, prenuptial agreements and marriage contracts as well as the implementation of family holdings and foundation structures.
Working in a German and international context, Dirk Schauer advises on setting up family foundations and charitable foundations, on changing statutes, on restructuring measures as well as on all ongoing legal matters and proceedings.
In estate matters, he advises his clients in amicable or disputed estate settlements, in the assertion or defence of claims to a compulsory portion as well as in the execution of wills and in probate proceedings.
Dirk Schauer joined CMS in 2012 and has been a partner since 2021. He regularly publishes and speaks on succession and foundation matters. He is a lecturer on foundation structures in succession planning at the German Lawyers' Institute DAI. He also lectures on foundation law at the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Notaries and is a lecturer in Stuttgart Bar Association’s specialist lawyers’ course on inheritance law. From 2016 to 2020, he was a lecturer on national and international succession management at Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) and until 2021, he taught inheritance law as part of the training of trainee lawyers provided by Stuttgart Bar Association.
