Martin Gerecke advises companies as well as private individuals on copyright law, press law and the freedom of expression as well as on new media law matters (domain and internet law, social media, games, digital business models). He reviews, protects and defends the content of publications, protects copyright, trademarks and designs as well as other intellectual property and takes over litigation in case of dispute. Martin also negotiates and drafts licence, agency and artists‘ agreements in the film and TV sector.
Furthermore, Martin is an experienced competition lawyer with a focus on unfair competition matters where he advises his clients on the design of marketing and product collateral and online shops. His practice also covers sports law, including sports marketing matters, rights licensing as well as eSports and gaming.
He also advises selected start-ups through the CMS equIP programme.
Martin joined CMS in 2014 after three years with an IP and media law boutique. He was made principal counsel in 2019. He teaches at the University of Kiel and regularly publishes on copyright and media law topics as well as intellectual property matters.
