AI – Using robotics and physical AI in compliance with the law

Fundamentals and guidelines for operators

20 Oct 2026 Germany 3 min read

Our training series on legally compliant use of robotics and physical AI – available as a live webinar or in-person

The training series begins with a concise introduction to the legal framework. This is followed by in-depth lessons on individual legal issues from the deployer's perspective. The structure follows that of a typical implementation project, from procurement through to putting into service and ongoing operations. It is about more than just the requirements set out in the Machinery Regulation, AI Act, Data Act and General Data Protection Regulation. The focus is on the strategic decisions that determine the timetable and liability in practice. These include when the works council gets involved and when modifying a system turns a deployer into a manufacturer. Participants will be given guidelines that they can apply directly to their own robotics projects.

Training content on the "legally compliant use of robotics and physical AI"

  • Lesson 1: Introduction and overview. One robot, many areas of law: Basic concepts, the roles of manufacturers, integrators and deployers, the legal framework and key dates up to 2028
  • Lesson 2: Procurement and contracts. Purchase, integration and robotics as a service: Scope of services, acceptance, updates, rights to data
  • Lesson 3: Product safety and the AI Act. Machinery Regulation and CE marking, manufacturers' obligations regarding modification and integration, and where the AI Act directly affects deployers
  • Lesson 4: Health and safety at work and co-determination. Risk assessment, human-robot collaboration, works council and works agreement as a roadmap for the roll-out
  • Lesson 5: Data protection and data law. Cameras and sensors in the workplace, employee data protection, access to machine data under the Data Act
  • Lesson 6: IT security. NIS2 within your own organisation, manufacturers' obligations under the Cyber Resilience Act as a procurement criterion, update and vulnerability management
  • Lesson 7: Liability and insurance. New product liability for software and AI, recourse in the supply chain, preservation of evidence through logging

Each in-depth section concludes with recommended courses of action, a checklist and a practical example.
