Summary and implications
The six-month transitional period under the CDM Regulations 2015 will come to an end on 6 October 2015.
The principal designer, the new role to be undertaken by a "designer" with control over the pre-construction phase of a project, will replace the role of CDM co-ordinator.
During the current transitional period, clients have been able to continue to employ a CDM co-ordinator to work on a project, without appointing a principal designer. However, clients must make the change and formally appoint a principal designer before the transitional period ends on 6 October for projects continuing after that date or they will be faced with having to take on the duties of the principal designer themselves.
