CMS advises Koru Kids on £10m series A funding

10 October 2019

International law firm CMS has advised Koru Kids, a London-based start-up which helps find and manage childcare, on its latest £10m Series A funding round, led by European Venture Capital firm Atomico. Investors AlbionVC, Forward Partners, Samos, JamJar, Global Founders Capital, and 7Percent also participated in the funding round.

Founded in 2016, Koru Kids provides an online platform for finding and managing childcare. Once they match families and nannies, Koru Kids takes care of administration, from contracts to payments and pensions. The business then selects and trains the top students and older adults in London as nannies, accepting less than 10% of applicants.

The fresh funding will be used to grow the sole care and nanny-share services, expand the offering with new products & services, expand to new cities and expand the team.

London partner John Finnemore led the CMS team, supported by associate Toby Lovett.

Rachel Carrell, CEO of Koru Kids comments: “Despite being critical infrastructure for our society, childcare has been overlooked for far too long. We’ve already seen how profoundly our services can improve the well-being of families, as well as older adults and children who have a chance to connect with another generation while working. We’re excited for Atomico to help us scale our vision of building a completely new way of doing childcare so even more families can benefit.”

She adds: “CMS is a trusted adviser to Koru Kids and has been instrumental to the success of this latest funding round. John and the team have expertly steered us through three critical fundraising rounds, which have raised a total of £14.1m to date.”
CMS is committed to supporting female founders and driving change in the start-up ecosystem. This year, the firm established its #LeadHers Mentoring and Networking programme to provide support to female founders on the award-winning equIP programme and encourage more female led businesses to join. The firm was also proud to sponsor the ‘Best High Growth Woman Founder’ at the UKBAA Angel Investment Awards in 2019.
