International law firm CMS has been ranked a top UK employer for social mobility in the seventh Social Mobility Index.
Created in 2017, the Social Mobility Index is an annual benchmarking tool that helps UK organisations understand how they are performing on social mobility and where they can improve. It identifies the top 75 UK employers that have taken the most actions to improve social mobility in the workplace across seven key areas, including work with young people, routes into the company, how they attract talent, recruitment and selection, and progression.
Penelope Warne, The Senior Partner at CMS, comments: “We are pleased to be ranked in the Social Mobility Index again this year. We are committed to support people from all walks of life who show the interest and potential to have a career in law. This ranking is a recognition of our ongoing efforts to prioritise social mobility within CMS and the legal industry.”
CMS has implemented a number of programmes to inspire students to consider a legal career. Its Scholarship programme makes a career in law more accessible to aspiring lawyers by awarding up to ten scholarships each year, paying £2,500 towards each year of their undergraduate degree, mentoring students applying to university and providing paid work experience. The firm also offers apprenticeships that offer comprehensive career development, support and learning experiences across multiple practice groups, and has launched CMS Connect, a hybrid paid work experience week delivering high-quality content to Year 12 / S5 students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds.
