Michael is an Associate in CMS Technology, Media and Telecommunications team. Michael's practice focuses on commercial technology procurement and outsourcing, contentious and non-contentious data, privacy and cyber matters and technology transactions. Michael has a broad experience assisting private and public sector clients to navigate complex commercial issues and achieve their organisational goals. Michael has a particular focus on clients in the life sciences and healthcare sectors and prides himself on a deep understanding of the commercial drivers for clients in these sectors. Michael has experience assisting Life Sciences and Healthcare clients with a range of commercial, regulatory and data protection issues.

Prior to joining CMS, Michael commenced his career in Brisbane, Australia, working in a Health, Human Services and Life Sciences sector specialist team at MinterEllison and in Allens' national Technology, Media and Telecommunications team. Michael has also previously been a legal member of the Metro North Health Human Research Ethics Committee. 

Relevant experience

  • Australia’s largest medical imaging provider in relation to a major modernization and
    procurement project of its clinical reporting systems, involving preparing and negotiating proof of concept and master services agreements with a range of technology providers.
  • A large global pharmaceutical company in relation to the preparation of a range of commercial agreements, including collaboration agreements, confidentiality agreements and master services agreements with clinical research organisations and laboratories.
  • Diligence on material technology contracts and preparing related aspects of the vendor due diligence report for one of Australia’s largest media companies.
  • A Government Owned Corporation in relation to a range of IT procurements and the negotiation of agreements for the provision of ticketing services. 
  • A Government Owned Corporation to manage the termination of a key commercial technology contract after the failure of a large-scale technology procurement. This involved actively managing the client’s engagement with the IT provider, advising on strategic issues and approach as well as preparing for eventual litigation.
  • A not for profit provider of aged care services to procure replacement systems for a range of legacy systems, including systems that were critical for the delivery of safe and high quality care.
