Welcome to the 10th report in CMS's Digital Horizons series, a platform dedicated to exploring the digital future of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). This edition focuses on Responsible AI and includes the results of a survey conducted with over 100 respondents across the region. Alongside the survey findings, the report also includes valuable perspectives from interviews with industry experts, providing a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities of AI adoption in CEE.
Key findings from the report include:
- Rapid AI adoption: 84% of CEE companies are already using AI, with 60% actively investing in AI systems and 20% planning future adoption.
- Challenges in focus: Privacy and security risks are a top concern for 66% of respondents, along with data accuracy and quality (55%) and lack of expertise (38%).
- Bridging the AI literacy gap: Despite the widespread use of AI, only 49% of respondents report a functional understanding of AI, with 94% acknowledging the need for further training.
- Regulatory readiness: The EU AI Act, which is due to be fully implemented in 2026, introduces significant compliance obligations in terms of governance, transparency and ethical standards.
