CMS ESG Charter

The scale and scope of the global challenges our society faces today and in the future are enormous. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and our commitment to the UN Global Compact, we work with our stakeholders to respond to these challenges to ensure that we integrate sustainability principles into our business operations and strategy. This charter serves as a framework to set out the approach of member firms in relation to sustainable business practices and environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) factors.

Our approach

Underpinning our approach is the commitment to and support of UN Global Compact Principles and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We work collaboratively with our stakeholders to ensure that we are as effective as possible in addressing our responsibilities and ESG factors.
We review our approach regularly so that it can evolve and improve to reflect the changing needs of our stakeholders and society.
We empower our people with the knowledge, skills and resources to understand and advise on ESG and sustainable business factors and to enable individuals to take positive action.
We acknowledge there is both an opportunity and a responsibility for us to support our clients and society to face global challenges and deliver a more sustainable future for us all. As a Future Facing firm, we take a bold, dynamic and agile approach to help clients of every size face the future with confidence.

Our commitments

  • Environmental Impact

    • Our ambition is to embed measurable sustainability practices across all aspects of our operations. This means addressing every area of our business – from resource and material management to energy-efficient infrastructure powered by renewable sources – ensuring that environmental responsibility is integral to how we operate.
  • Social contribution

    • We commit to making a positive contribution in the community locally and globally through charitable giving, volunteering and pro bono.
    • We commit to fulfilling the goals of the CMS Diversity and Inclusion Charter and strive to create an inclusive culture in which diversity is recognised and valued. We uphold human rights and labour standards as well as prioritise and support the health, safety and wellbeing of all our people.
  • Business compliance

    • We commit to being a fair and trusted business, always upholding our professional and ethical standards.
    • This includes complying with the relevant legislation and standards of the countries in which we operate and applying relevant best practices.

Reporting, best practice and collaboration

As part of an ongoing CMS initiative, it is mandatory for all firms to measure and manage carbon emissions and establish appropriate quantitative targets and metrics for each jurisdiction in environmental, social and governance. Data is collected annually to track progress and drive improvement.
To ensure leadership and governance, we have a central Sustainability Committee and each member firm has in place a board level sponsor for the oversight of sustainable business practices and ESG management.
We share and celebrate best practice and encourage collaboration
