The maximum amount of cash a customer may use to purchase items in a store in France is EUR 1000 when the customer is a French resident and EUR 15,000 when the customer is a tax resident of a foreign country.

There is no limitation in France in regard to the acceptance of euro banknotes.

There are no clear rules in France on partial and/or related cash payments, but the intent of the text is that partial and/or related cash payments exceeding the maximum amounts specified above are forbidden.

The customer and the merchant are solely liable for the payment of this fine.
