What will be the most important market trend affecting your clients’ sector over the next 12 months?

The digitalisation of healthcare, and the ramping up and investment by many of the largest global technology companies will transform the market. The benefits for patients and consumers will be enormous. The evolving complicated issues for lawyers to grapple with will also be significant.

What has been your most memorable day as a lawyer?

It was during the early stages of my career and the penultimate day of a three-week arbitration hearing for a major Japanese pharmaceutical client, a case I had been acting on for over four exhausting years. It was the day we won the argument against the other side’s key expert, a world-leading cardiologist, on cross-examination. On that day, we knew our detailed preparation and hard work over a sustained period had paid off.

If you weren’t a lawyer, how would you earn your living?

I studied psychology at university and did consider, in my younger years, becoming a clinical or educational psychologist. Now though, I would open a small restaurant on a beach in Asia, serving the best local cuisine in a relaxed setting, with fine views, big smiles and blissful happiness.
