The life sciences and healthcare industry is being transformed by the advancement of technology and digital services. Innovation in the digital health space helps the sector to create new drugs and medical devices as well as improving healthcare outcomes for patients.
Our Digital Health seminar will explore the initial challenges that those active in this area face, namely how to protect the new technology, an assessment of the regulatory challenges of new technology and the ethical considerations of using artificial intelligence in the life sciences and healthcare sector.
We are delighted to have Natalie Banner of the Wellcome Trust and Juliet Tizzard of the NHS joining us in our panel discussion. Natalie leads the Wellcome's Understanding Patient Data team supporting responsible use of health data. Juliet is Director of Policy in the NHS's Health Research Authority. Juliet's previous experience as Director of Strategy at the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority makes her ideally placed for AI ethics policy work.
There will be a discussion about the use of data trusts in healthcare, how these compare with other forms of data sharing arrangements and the benefits that follow. We will also explore examples of new technology which enable different parties who control confidential data, such as patient data, to share their data in machine learning processes in a secure and confidential manner.
