On your radar | Issue 30
Key employment issues to be aware of internationally
Our 30th edition of On your radar covers trends in working time; the promotion of collective bargaining and changes affecting atypical working relationships.
Spain plans to introduce new digital time-tracking measures, and revisions to Portugal’s Labour Code have been proposed, which affect telework and the reintroduction of individual time banks.
Expected amendments to the Labour Code in Bulgaria will promote collective bargaining, while Croatia launches an electronic database of collective agreements to improve transparency. Following a Constitutional Court ruling, employers in Turkyie should review their collective labour agreement policies to ensure white-collar employees are not improperly excluded.
Equality & inclusion remain a theme: Mexico discusses a legislative proposal involving periodic inspections to assist with gender pay, Kenya highlights changes to disability rights, and in India certain regulated entities should take steps to comply with the rules on digital accessibility in the securities market.
The changes reported in this edition extend beyond the standard employment contract model and include independent contractors. Poland will be changing seniority rules for civil law contracts, and Brazil reports on judicial proceedings on the legality of hiring service providers. Employers in Slovakia should prepare for more frequent inspections with a focus on “concealed” employment and tighter enforcement on misclassification.
As ever, HR should continue to monitor these international developments and the impact on local workforces.
