Daniela is a Senior Associate at the firm, primarily focusing on Customs and International Trade law. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Universidad del Rosario, with a concentration in International Law, Tax Law, and Public Finance. Daniela also has a Graduate Degree in Public Management and Administrative Institutions from the Universidad de los and is currently a pursuing a Master’s Degree in International Economic Law and Public Policy at the European Public Law Organization.

 

Daniela has over 8 years of experience as a consultant and litigator, advising national and international clients on customs and international trade matters. Her practice area includes advising and representing clients in administrative and judicial disputes related to, among others, the following issues: 

  • Tariff classification.
  • Customs valuation.
  • Interpretation of international treaties.
  • Preferential tariff regimes and Free Trade Agreements.
  • Preferential and non-preferential origin of goods.
  • Tariff barriers to international trade.
  • Sanitary and phytosanitary barriers to international trade, among other non-tariff barriers.
  • Seizure and confiscation of goods.
  • Customs compliance.
  • Trade defence: anti-dumping, countervailing duties, and safeguards.
  • Restrictions on imports, exports, and investment control.
  • Investment promotion and protection agreements.
  • Investor-State disputes.
  • Review of contracts related to foreign trade operations.
  • General advice on trade promotion instruments: Free Trade Zones, International Trading Companies, Plan Vallejo, International Logistics Distribution Centers, and Authorized Economic Operators.
  • Requests for repayment of customs taxes (duties, tariffs and VAT) and remission.
