New value in official fees will boost the registration of trademarks by young people

Pursuant to article 78 of Law 1480 of 2011, the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce may set and collect in its favor the fees corresponding to the recovery of the costs of the services it provides to users. This is how, annually, through a Resolution, it sets the official rates applicable to trademark registration procedures.

Resolution 63360, which sets the official fees for the year 2022,  stands out due to the inclusion of a special fee for trademark applications filed by young people between 18 and 28 years of age.

It is a great novelty that is part of the National Intellectual Property Policy, whose objective is to consolidate the generation and management of intellectual property and its use as a tool to encourage creation, innovation, knowledge transfer and generate increases in productivity.

The truth is that the official rate applicable to young people is extremely attractive, with a value of $69,000 for applications filed online on the platform of the entity, against the value of $1,003,500 applicable to other applicants.

This new official rate will be granted to all applicants who prove they are in this age range by presenting a copy of their citizenship card or the identification document of their country of birth if they are foreigners.

Finally, we recall that the Superintendence grants preferential rates for other categories of applicants, such as artisans and SMEs, among others.
