CMS advises EnBW on construction of Albatross offshore wind farm in North Sea

12/05/2017

Hamburg – The Supervisory Board of EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG has approved the investment in and construction of EnBW's Albatross offshore wind farm. Albatross will be built in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the North Sea, covering an area of 11 square kilometres close to the EnBW Hohe See and He Dreiht wind farms.

A team headed by lead partner Dr Holger Kraft advised EnBW on all legal aspects of drafting, negotiating and signing the project contracts for construction of EnBW Albatross. This is not the first time that EnBW has relied on the expertise of CMS lawyers – the team led by Dr Holger Kraft also provided legal advice during the tendering procedure and when negotiating the project contracts for the Hohe See offshore wind farm.

EnBW Albatross already has binding consent for a grid connection. The 16 Siemens SWT-7.0-154 turbines will have an installed capacity of 112 MW. The wind farm is scheduled for completion by 2019, in tandem with the EnBW Hohe See wind farm (497 MW), which was approved in December 2016. Together, the two wind farms will generate around 2.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity per year. That is enough to supply some 710,000 households with power, equivalent to the electricity consumption of all private households in the city of Munich.
