Matthias Sethmann advises his clients on national and international projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He has special expertise with onshore and offshore wind farm as well as solar park projects where he advises his clients on planning, realisation and operational aspects of facilities. Apart from providing ongoing advice, Matthias also drafts, reviews and negotiates contracts (including FIDIC contracts) for the construction and operation of energy and infrastructure projects. His clients include German and international investors, utilities, project developers, service providers as well as plant manufacturers.

Matthias joined CMS in 2010 and has been a principal counsel since 2020.

  • 2001 - 2007: Law studies at the Universities of Hamburg and Prague
  • 2001 - 2004: Part-time work for Deutsche Bank AG and Schiffshypothekenbank zu Lübeck AG in their departments for international shipping finance
  • 1998 - 2000: Trained as a banker with Deutsche Bank AG in Hamburg
