Project worth EUR 1 billion: CMS Hasche Sigle advises Anglo-Saxon financial investor on acquisition of North Sea wind farm project Deutsche Bucht

25/10/2012

Hamburg – An Anglo-Saxon financial investor has acquired the offshore wind farm Deutsche Bucht. The purchase agreement for the offshore project in the German North Sea north of Borkum has now been signed. The investor intends to continue developing the wind farm.

A team led by corporate law experts Dr Christian von Lenthe and Dr Jacob Siebert together with renewable energy expert Dr Holger Kraft advised the private equity investor on all aspects of the transaction. Reaching agreement with grid operator TenneT was a particularly important aspect of the transaction.

Dr Holger Kraft and his team will also provide ongoing legal support during the development of the array. CMS Hasche Sigle is one of the leading law firms in the field of renewable energy and is regularly instructed to provide advice on the development and financing of offshore wind farms. Among other projects, CMS Hasche Sigle previously advised on Global Tech I.

Located in the North Sea, the Deutsche Bucht wind farm involves construction of 42 turbines with a capacity of 210 megawatts at a total cost of more than EUR 1 billion. With a steady North Sea wind, the turbine rotors can supply up to 670,000 people with electricity. German company Windreich also handled project planning of the Global Tech I and MEG 1 wind farms.
