Maximilian Vonthien advises clients on protecting their intellectual property, with a focus on digital business. He primarily advises on matters of copyright, contract and AI law.
A key focus of his work is advising clients on the review and drafting of contracts. Maximilian Vonthien has extensive expertise in implementing complex licensing contract structures in the digital business environment. He also advises companies on developing AI policies and prepares legal opinions on questions relating to the AI Act and adjacent areas of law, in particular copyright and unfair competition law. In addition, Maximilian Vonthien represents clients in court in copyright and unfair competition disputes.
He regularly gives lectures and webinars on AI law topics and is the (co-)author of various publications on copyright and AI law. He is Co-Head of CMS’s internal AI Focus Group and a member of BITKOM’s Artificial Intelligence Working Group.
Maximilian Vonthien joined CMS as a lawyer in 2020. In 2026, he was appointed Counsel.
