Brussels/Berlin – The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) has adopted a new organisational structure in the form of an international not-for-profit organisation under Belgian law (Association Internationale Sans But Lucratif – AISBL). The international structure, which has evolved over many years to ensure the quality of manufacturing processes in the automotive and supplier industries, has thus been transformed into a forward-looking organisational form.
CMS, led by partners Dr Gerd Leutner and Dr Michael Bauer, provided the IATF with comprehensive legal advice on the design and implementation of the new structure. The mandate focused in particular on the legal framework of the new organisational structure and its governance rules.
The IATF is an organisation of leading automotive manufacturers and national automotive industry associations with the aim of developing globally uniform quality management system standards for automotive production and the supplier industry and monitoring their application. Through harmonised requirements for production and quality processes, it promotes continuous improvement in the global automotive supply chain and efficient cooperation between suppliers and automotive manufacturers.
The IATF 16949 quality management system standard developed by the IATF forms a globally authoritative basis for quality management systems in the automotive supply industry.
Over 100,000 manufacturing sites worldwide are certified to this standard. The new structure strengthens the further development of quality management system standards and their application in a technologically evolving automotive industry. Existing IATF 16949 certifications remain unaffected by the establishment of IATF AISBL.
