Michael Kamps started to advise on data protection law issues more than two decades ago, and his current practice focuses on data protection law exclusively.
He advises German and international clients from various industries (including regulated industries) on the increasingly complex legal framework for the processing of (personal) data, including data protection compliance strategies and organization. In addition, he represents clients in court or administrative proceedings brought by supervisory authorities. He also specialises in advising on data protection transactions, including the use of personal data in/out of insolvency in compliance with data protection law, as well as on issues of employee data protection.
Michael is co-head of CMS' international data protection group and the data protection group at CMS Germany. He also coordinates the incident response / post breach support activities of CMS Germany and has been involved in a significant number of data breach cases in recent years.
Michael regularly lectures and publishes on information law issues and is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the German Society for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD) and the German Society for Law and Informatics (DGRI).
