Principal agency sites
Health and Safety Executive -
http://www.hse.gov.uk
This is the most important single site, with a good search facility for all HSE sources and extensive links to other agencies and information suppliers. Of particular interest is the "name and shame" site which is found at http://www.hse-databases.co.uk/prosecutions/ with details of prosecutions and fines which is searchable by company/individuals' names or by reference to specific offences.
Information on enforcement notices served on organisations is also available at http://www.hse-databases.co.uk/notices
The site is also particularly important for getting up to date information on progress of draft legislation, consultative documents, safety alerts and new codes and guidance. (Go to the 'HSE What's New?' page which is at http://www.hse.gov.uk/new/index.htm/
Actual guidance publications and legislation are not available on this site - instead see Stationery Office and European Commission sites below. Refer also to http://www.hsebooks.co.uk which has up to date catalogues of HSE materials, some of which are downloadable where they are free publications. However, enquiries to identify relevant guidelines etc are usually quicker if made by phone. HSE info line telephone 08701 545 500 (8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday) (and e-mail hseinformationservices@natbrit.com).
European Commission -
http://europe.osha.eu.int/
This site provides route to sources of European legislation, reports and guidelines. The content of the site is disappointing and in particular it lacks any useful comparative guides for the laws of Member States (though it does have various links to Member States' website, some of which contain useful English language materials). Like the Europa websites, page loading is slow and it can be difficult to navigate between pages.
Refer also to the UK focal point of the European Agency for Safety and Health and Work which forms part of this site at http://uk.osha.eu.int/. Related UK government sites on organisational index enabling navigation to UK public sector bodies is available at the address http://www.open.gov.uk/.
Legal source materials
Stationary Office -
http://www.hmso.gov.uk/
This is the principal source for acts of parliament and statutory instruments on the internet, but its value is restricted because of the absence of legislation pre-1988.
European Commission -
http://europa.eu.int/comm/index_en.htm
This is the main source for existing and proposed EU legislation and treaties.

The content of this site tends to be focused on internal IOSH affairs at trading courses and publications.

This site tends to be focused on RoSPA's own activities but it is useful source for statistics and articles on safety.

A useful site for access to reports such as those on mobile phones and electrical fields as well as other authoritative sources of advice.
