CMS announces role as founding supporter of Law Beats Cancer
CMS is pleased to announce that it is a founding supporter law firm of Law Beats Cancer, a first-of-its-kind initiative bringing together the legal community in support of Cancer Research UK.
With nearly one in two people in the UK set to be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime*, the urgency for continued investment in research has never been greater. While cancer survival rates in the UK have doubled over the past 50 years thanks to advances in research and treatment, Cancer Research UK is still unable to fund many world-class research projects each year due to a lack of available funding.
Law Beats Cancer has been established to help close that gap by uniting the legal profession – including solicitors, barristers and in-house teams – behind a shared mission: to accelerate life-saving cancer research. The initiative will focus on thought leadership, networking, events, challenges and other activities designed to build momentum, foster collaboration and create a strong sense of community across the sector.
Adrian Bell, Managing Partner at CMS UK, comments: “Cancer touches so many people’s lives, and its impact is felt deeply across families, workplaces and communities – including within the legal profession. As a firm, we know that many of our colleagues and clients will have personal experience of cancer, whether directly or through someone close to them. That makes Law Beats Cancer an initiative with real personal and professional significance. CMS is proud to be a founding supporter and to stand alongside others across the legal community in supporting vital research and contributing to meaningful progress in the fight against cancer.”
Linda Horbye, Head of ESG at CMS UK, comments: “Law Beats Cancer aligns strongly with our social impact priorities and our belief that businesses have an important role to play in addressing social challenges. It has been wonderful to see the initiative receive such strong backing from across the legal sector, and we are proud to be involved as a founding supporter. Our support of Cancer Research UK through this initiative reflects our broader commitment to making a positive difference beyond our day-to-day legal work.”
