Harriet Munro is a Consultant in the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance group and is dual qualified in Scotland and England & Wales.

She has experience in insurance litigation over a number of sectors, with particular expertise in professional indemnity claims for construction professionals including engineers, architects, design & build contractors, project managers, quantity and valuation surveyors. Harriet also has experience of construction all risks and defects liability policy claims.

Harriet and the team in Scotland have, more recently, developed a broader practice and have defended claims against brokers, insolvency practitioners, IFAs, accountants, media and trust fund professionals.  She has also acted in D&O claims and trade credit insurance disputes. 

Harriet is regularly instructed by insurers on policy coverage matters. 

The team in Scotland continues to be instructed on some of the most complex and high value professional negligence and insurance disputes involving issues of Scots law.

Relevant experience

  • A firm of architects and their PI insurers in the defence of a GBP 12m professional negligence claim involving issues of contaminated land.
  • Defending administrators in a GBP 57m action brought in the Scottish Courts.
  • Insurance, including construction all risks advice in relation to a fire at a historic Scottish building.
  • Structural engineers and their PI Insurers in relation to a series of over 60 linked, multi-party actions involving allegations of breach of obligations in relation to ground remediation works.
  • Defending engineers in relation to a high profile Scottish hospital dispute.
  • Insurance policy coverage advice in respect of a number of Scottish hotel cladding related disputes.
  • Defending an Insured in relation to allegedly negligent corporate tax advice: GBP 20m.
  • A British sporting body in defending a professional negligence claim in relation to the application of EU Regulations on equivalent qualifications.
