Kirsten is a partner in our Scottish real estate team who focuses primarily on real estate investment, development and asset management with a particular focus on the retail sector with detailed knowledge of the current trends, issues and key players in this sector. She works on a variety of large and complex projects for investors, developers and landlords including Landsec, Mileway, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, SGS/Pradera Lateral and Nuveen Real Estate. 

Kirsten, along with the other real estate partners based in Scotland with the support of the wider CMS network, can support clients across the full life of an asset: from financing, acquisition, development, asset management and eventual exit.

Kirsten’s has a strong reputation in the Scottish property market particularly in asset  management with a leading client saying “I never fail to be impressed by the level of dedication and commitment she demonstrates on a daily basis. Kirsten is an integral part of the client leasing team within which she works closely with all parties to ensure clear and concise non legal input is incorporated within the legal agreements and that the non-legal parties within the team fully understand the detail and more importantly practical implications of drafting being agreed”.

Kirsten is also the CMS representative on the Property Standardisation Group, which produces, maintains and updates agreed forms of documents and procedures for Scottish commercial property transactions.  She is also part of the Scottish Tech & Innovation Working Group focusing on investment in and harnessing of technology and innovation in legal services. 

Relevant experience

  • Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield on the retail led, lifestyle district, St James Quarter, Edinburgh where Kirsten leads the CMS team on all aspects of retail & leisure delivery and asset management.
  • Nuveen Real Estate and Dutch pension investment company APG on the real estate aspects the corporate sale of the W Edinburgh hotel.  
  • Nuveen Real Estate on the real estate aspects of the corporate sale of their 25% stake in St James Quarter, Edinburgh. 
  • Landsec on the development of a major mixed use development site on Buchanan Street in Glasgow, including initial site acquisition from an insolvent seller, and developing and executing a site assembly and vacant possession strategy within the framework of an existing CPO and indemnity arrangement.  
  • Landsec on the asset management of their Scottish retail and leisure portfolio and the redevelopment of Buchanan Galleries.
  • NewRiver REIT plc on the acquisition and management of a number of retail parks and shopping centres in Scotland.
  • Mileway, the leading ‘last mile’ logistics real estate investor, on all asset management requirements of the fund across a range of logistic warehousing throughout Scotland. 
  • US based online cryptocurrency community LinksDAO on their first golf course acquisition outside of the USA
  • SGS/Pradera Latera on the asset management of GRID and on the asset management and subsequent corporate sale of Braehead Shopping Centre.
